ICAO meets aviation stakeholders to review aviation laws, treaties.

DAR ES SALAAM: Aviation law stakeholders from various countries have convened in Dar es Salaam for an international working meeting focused on reviewing and discussing aviation laws and treaties.

The meeting aims to analyze the contents of different treaties and identify countries that have not yet ratified them, encouraging their participation.

Opening the meeting, Attorney General Hamza Johari said participants would have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on how to address challenges in aviation law globally.

The event is organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in collaboration with the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA).

Johari highlighted that aviation plays a significant role in connecting people, markets, businesses, and cultures. He emphasized that for the sector to operate efficiently, a robust legal framework is essential. He added that international meetings like this provide lawyers the chance to come together to discuss legal challenges and ensure that laws are properly implemented in member states.

Meanwhile, TCAA Director General Salim Msangi stated that the meeting is attended by more than 150 participants from different countries. He noted that the meeting would be a catalyst for Tanzania, as it provides an opportunity to review treaties the country has not yet ratified and assess the possibility of incorporating them into domestic law.

Msangi explained that ratifying international treaties helps strengthen the implementation of domestic laws and promotes the growth of the aviation sector, as it is impossible to enforce a treaty without integrating it into national legislation.

The meeting began today and is expected to conclude this Friday. This is the first meeting of its kind to be held in Africa, with Tanzania hosting through collaboration between ICAO and TCAA.
