IAWP Conference trains 20 Tanzanians how to efficiently handle their immigration duties

DAR ES SALAAM: ABOUT 20 female immigration officers from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar are expected to return home with new knowledge, international experience and best practices in the execution of immigration duties after participating in the 63rd International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Conference in Bali, Indonesia.

The officers from the Tanzania Immigration Department are attending the conference alongside female law enforcement officers from different countries around the world. The forum provides a platform for capacity building, experience sharing and strengthening the implementation of duties related to security, law enforcement and service delivery to communities.

Speaking after the opening of the conference, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, DCI Bahati Mwaifuge, said the participation of the female officers provides Tanzania with an important opportunity to learn new approaches and gain experience from different law enforcement systems around the world.

She said the knowledge acquired during the conference would help the Tanzania Immigration Department continue improving services to citizens and visitors while strengthening the efficiency and professionalism of its officers.

“The experience and knowledge we are gaining here are important in improving our services. We expect to return home with new approaches that will help us enhance efficiency, professionalism and the quality of services we provide to citizens and visitors,” said DCI Mwaifuge.

The conference has been organised by the International Association of Women Police (IAWP), an organisation that brings together women from law enforcement agencies around the world to build capacity, exchange experiences and discuss challenges facing women in the security and law enforcement sector.

In addition to capacity building in various areas related to their duties, participants have an opportunity to learn from approaches adopted by other countries in addressing operational challenges and improving service delivery to communities.

For Tanzania, the participation of the approximately 20 officers from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar provides the Immigration Department with an opportunity to gain experience from different international systems and apply relevant lessons to strengthen operational performance, professionalism and the quality of services provided to citizens and visitors in the country.
