IAA launches tech courses to power digital economy

ARUSHA: THE Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), Babati Campus, has introduced two technology-focused degree programmes to produce professionals capable of meeting the demands of the digital economy and supporting the implementation of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Babati Rural MP, Daniel Sillo, unveiled the programmes during a launch event held at the campus in Babati District, Manyara Region.

The new programmes Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Accounting in Information Technology will be offered starting in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Mr Sillo directed the institution to continue developing market-driven courses, noting that the programmes are timely in addressing the growing demand for digital skills.

“These programmes are part of implementing the National Development Vision 2050 by ensuring the country has professionals aligned with technological advancement,” he said.

He noted that both public and private sector systems increasingly require experts with strong technological capabilities to address emerging challenges.

Mr Sillo also urged students to apply their knowledge to solve community challenges and embrace innovation and self-employment, rather than relying solely on formal jobs.

IAA Rector, Professor Eliamani Sedoyeka, said the programmes align with the Vision 2050 agenda, adding that the institution is also improving its learning environment.

He said the government has allocated 3.7bn/- for the construction of two buildings and a perimeter wall at the campus, with works already underway.

Prof Sedoyeka added that the campus offers free accommodation to first-year students and currently runs 11 diploma programmes.

Established in 2024, IAA Babati Campus has now introduced the degree programmes as part of efforts to expand access to higher education for youth in Manyara Region and neighbouring areas.

Babati District Administrative Secretary, Thobias Abwaro, said the institute has eased the financial burden on parents who previously had to send their children far from home for higher education.

Babati Urban MP, Emmanuel Khambay, said the campus provides a valuable opportunity for young people to pursue higher education closer to their communities.
