Huwel wins Mkwawa Leaf Rally’s Super Special Stage

MOROGORO: MKWAWA Rally team’s strong arm, Ahmed Huwel will be the first off ramp in the final showdown of the Mkwawa Leaf Rally tomorrow after chalking the fastest time in the  Super Special State held this evening in Morogoro.

Huwel, who is navigated  by Rahim Suleiman in Toyota GR Yaris  beat  his 11 opponents  using 04 minutes, 14 seconds and 1 point in a fiercely contested two stages of the event.

Huwel finished 3 seconds ahead  of his closest challenger, Manvir Birdi who  clocked 04 minutes, 14 seconds and 1

Pointr.

The surprise package of the day was Kithin Marey  who finished third in  04:28:2 under the navigation of  experienced co-driver, Awadh Bafadhil.

Gurpal Sandhu  who clocked 04:32: 4 will leave fourth under the navigation of Zambian wheeler, Dave Sihoka/

Tufail Amin  who spent 0:4:41.3 will be the fifth to leave ahead of Waleed Nahdi of Morogoro  in Subaru Impreza N11.

Twelve cars managed to finish the two opening  stages held at TFS Mkundi Forest in Morogoro.

Amapiano team’s  Charles Bicco  and his navigator David Matete  will be seventh to leave the podium  before opening the way to Harinder Deere and later Erfan Aladin ‘Madebe’.

Also to be involved in tomorrow’s flag off include Musa Mswaki and Hamid Mbatta.

It will be fierce chase for the diadem between the defending champion, Ahmed Huwel and his top challenger, Manvir Birdi is the top order of the Mkwawa Leaf Rally heading for topmorow’s flag off.

Huwel from Iringa will represent the Mkwawa Rally team as the defending champion while Birdi will be powering his Skoda Fabia under ASAS team banner.

Birdi, who recently won the second round of NRC in the event held in Kisarawe district, be be facing Huwel, one of the event’s tittle favourites.

Organized by t Mount Uluguru Motorsports Club, this spectacular event, according to Mr Mahigi has drawn 12 cars

All remaining stages will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2026 at Mkundi TFS, according to Mahigi.

“ I urge residents of Morogoro and all Tanzanians to come out in large numbers to witness this thrilling event,” he said.

He added that the rally presents a major economic opportunity for local residents and small businesses, as it will attract visitors from both within and outside Tanzania.
