House of Reps hailed for exemplary service

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has praised Members of the House of Representatives for their outstanding performance and dedicated service to the public over the past five years.

He was speaking during a farewell dinner as the House of Representatives term comes to an official end in August.

In his address, President Mwinyi expressed deep appreciation for the House’s vital role in national development, emphasising that the successful performance of the three pillars such as the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature has greatly contributed to effective public service delivery.

He underscored the critical role played by the House in legislative duties, budget approval and oversight of government operations and development projects, describing these functions as key drivers of improved governance and service to citizens.

“The strong performance of the House has been a major catalyst in enabling the government to implement its development agenda effectively,” Dr Mwinyi said.

As the country heads toward the 2025 General Election, President Mwinyi urged all outgoing lawmakers to fully participate in the democratic process by voting and encouraging others to exercise their constitutional rights.

He emphasised that doing so upholds democratic values and respects the role of constitutional institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The farewell comes as President Mwinyi recently announced the formal dissolution of the 10th Zanzibar House of Representatives, effective August 13, 2025, in accordance with the Zanzibar Constitution, marking the end of its five-year term.

Also speaking at the event, Second Vice-President of Zanzibar Hemed Suleiman Abdulla and Speaker of the House Zubeir Ali Maulid applauded President Mwinyi for empowering lawmakers to respond effectively to the needs of the people.
