Honour Bibi Titi’s legacy in advancing inclusive leadership, Tanzanians urged

MOROGORO: TANZANIANS have been urged to honour the legacy of Bibi Titi Mohamed, whose courage and sacrifices paved the way for women and youths to take up leadership and decision making positions in the country.
The call was made midweek in Morogoro during the National Dialogue on Civic Engagement through Storytelling and Emerging Technologies, organised by Youth Environmental Justice and Gender Equality (YOGE) in collaboration with ONASTORIES.
YOGE Executive Director, Advocate Philomena Mwalongo, described Bibi Titi as a fearless leader who opened doors for the inclusion of women, youths and marginalised groups in national leadership.
Mr Francis Wairura, a representative from ONASTORIES, stressed the need for Bibi Titi’s legacy to be given the recognition it deserves, noting that her story had been overlooked despite her immense contribution to Tanganyika’s independence and inclusive leadership.
“Bibi Titi broke the silence and inspired women and youths to act even in the face of danger. We bring her story to the table not only to honour her memoir but also to inspire current and future generations of women and youth leaders,” said Wairura.

Mr Ramadhani Rashid, Chairman of traditional leaders in Morogoro, hailed Bibi Titi as a charismatic and patriotic leader who mobilised ordinary women to support Tanganyika’s liberation struggles.
“Her footsteps are evident today in the many women and youth leaders who continue to excel. Whatever we see now is a result of her sacrifices,” he said.
Participants at the dialogue also viewed a documentary on Bibi Titi’s life and legacy, which highlighted her role in fostering the participation of women and youths in leadership and decision-making.
The session coincided with the recent launch of the National Development Vision 2050 by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which calls for aligning policies with key pillars such as governance, civic rights and inclusivity to transform Tanzania into a high-income, sustainable and inclusive nation by 2050.
