Hondogo sparkle in Tanzania softball tour

HONDOGO softball Team won the 6th Tanzania Koshien National Softball title after beating Zanzibar 6-5 in a hard-fought game in Dar es Salaam on Mday.

The game attracted many fans of baseball and softball in Tanzania, most of them being youth,  cheering for each game played.

The most epic moment was the grand finale, as the two sides showed alot of experience in each inning.

Among the exciting moments was in the first, second, fifth and sixth inning.

As the game commenced with energy; both sides seemed equal as the first inning ended in a 2-2 tie.

In the second inning Hondogo came better than their opponent after leading the score by 2-0; Hondogo extended they dominance in the fifth inning scoring 2-0 again, making the scoreboard read 6-2.

The Zanzibar side regained their composure in the sixth inning after scoring 3-0 making an attempt to extend their chance to claim the title but they failed as the umpire concluded the game making Hondogo claiming this year’s softball championship with 6-5 score.

Following the victory, Hondogo Coach Maclina Mutabuzi hailed her players for winning this year’s softball title.

“It was a wonderful experience, the girls did a good job and I am glad we won this year’s tournament.

The Zanzibar side are good, they did challenge us, but we remained focus and fought hard to win. We hope to claim this title next year through hard work.”

The champions skipper Husna Mohamed remarked: “It was a great final, we fought well to beat our opponent. This is our fifth time meeting Zanzibar at finals; in five games played with Zanzibar we have won four.”

The Zanzibar Softball team matron Nasra Jailan Kombo said they will work hard for the next year’s tournament and hopefully they will win.

“We did lose, but we did well. We shall work on our mistakes and hopefully win next year’s competition.”
