Historic offshore bond listing signals growing global investor confidence in Tanzania
LONDON: TANZANIA has reached a significant milestone in its financial and investment journey following the successful listing of its first offshore Tanzanian Shilling-denominated bond at the London Stock Exchange.
The Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), led by its Director General Gilead Teri, joined Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, Minister of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania, alongside senior Government officials, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group, NMB Bank, and international investors to commemorate this landmark achievement.
Issued by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, the TZS 265.2 billion (US$100 million) bond is the largest Tanzanian Shilling-denominated bond ever issued in international capital markets.
Beyond its significance in the capital markets, this landmark transaction sends a powerful message of growing global confidence in Tanzania’s macroeconomic stability, sound economic reforms and favourable investment climate. It strengthens the country’s position in international capital markets while unlocking new opportunities for private sector growth, industrialisation, financial inclusion and job creation.
For TISEZA, this achievement reinforces the Authority’s mandate to attract, facilitate and retain quality investments by fostering an enabling business environment where investors have greater access to long-term financing, businesses can expand with confidence and contribute to sustainable economic transformation.
This milestone also reflects the tangible outcomes of the Government’s reform agenda under the visionary of Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Guided by the 4Rs philosophy particularly on Reforms and Rebuilding Tanzania has strengthened its investment climate through improved economic governance, enhanced policy certainty and a more predictable business environment.
