THE commemoration of this year’s National Heroes day, which is celebrated on July 25, will be held at the New Heroes Grounds (Mashujaa Grounds) built at Mtumba Government City in Dodoma capital.
The commemorations will be preceded by lighting of Heroes Torch on July 24 this year. This is the first time the newly built grounds host such an important day.
Speaking here on Thursday, Dodoma Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Rosemary Senyamule said that the previous celebration was held at Jamatini grounds, but this year’s celebration will be different, as it will be held at the New Heroes Grounds at Mtumba Government City.
“We expect to mark the climax of the Heroes Day on July 25, this celebration will not be held at Jamatini grounds as we normally do but at the New Heroes Grounds,” she said.
“Before the climax, there will be an exercise of lighting the Heroes Torch that will be lit at 00.00 midnight on July 24 by the Dodoma RC Ms Senyamule and it will be turned off at 00.00 midnight on July 25th by the Mayor of Dodoma City, Professor Davis Mwamfupe after the end of the celebrations,” she added.
Ms Senyamule said that holding the celebration at the New Heroes Grounds follows an ideas and directives of President Samia Suluhu Hassan who proposed the grounds to be built at the Government City, after which she disbursed funds for the work.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to President Samia for coming up with the idea of building this New Heroes Grounds as well as availing funds for the implementation of this project,” she said.
The Dodoma RC noted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to grace the climax of the Heroes Day celebrations.
She said the celebration is part of remembering the heroes who lost their lives when defending, fighting for and protecting the freedom of the country.
“This day is important in reminding us of our responsibility in taking care of the history of our heroes and preserving it well for the coming generations as well as using the courage of the heroes to make economic reforms for the benefit of the next generation” she said.
Ms Senyamule further called on Tanzanians to use the celebration to maintain and forge the national unity, peace and stability so that they can spend time engaging themselves in implementing various development activities.
She also urged all leaders and citizens from Dodoma city and neighbouring regions to turn up in big numbers to attend and participate in the event.
“I take this opportunity to invite all government leaders, religious leaders, and all Tanzanians from Dodoma Region and from the neighbouring regions of Singida, Morogoro, Iringa and Manyara to attend the Heroes Day,” she said.
