TANZANIA: Minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu mourned the 13 passengers who perished in a tragic collision between an upcountry bus and a train in Manyoni District, Singida Region.
Among the victims were two doctors affiliated with the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT).
Minister Ummy extended her condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their loved ones in this heartbreaking incident.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) platform, she wrote, “This is a great tragedy. Many condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased and to the Tanzania Medical Association @association_mat for losing your community members. May God rest the souls of our experts in peace and all those who lost their lives in this accident.”
The fatal accident, occurring on Wednesday, left 32 injured after a bus collided with a train in Singida Region.
Hours after the incident, MAT revealed the names of its members killed in the accident as Dr. Godfrey Chillya and Dr. Mirumbe Winani.
“The Association of Doctors has sadly received the news of 13 deaths, two of them being doctors [Dr. Godfrey Chillya and Dr. Mirumbe Winani]… The association extends its condolences to both families and the injured,” MAT posted.
The crash happened during the early morning hours when the bus attempted to cross the railway. According to the statement, out of the total 13 deceased, six were women, and the remaining seven were men.
A total of 32 survivors were rushed to hospitals for medical attention.
