Health experts told to uphold professional ethics
DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Chief Medical Officer, Dr Thomas Lutachunzibwa, has called on health professionals to diligently adhere to their professional standards, prioritising service over personal interests.
Dr Lutachunzibwa emphasised that these professional oaths are not just commitments to the profession but also covenants with God.
He made these remarks over the weekend while closing a two-day training session on poison control for health experts in the Dodoma Region.
The training, organised by the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA), took place in Dodoma.
“In the health profession, our oaths prioritise humanity and helping people, not financial gain. Let’s work hard and use the knowledge we’ve gained to help the Tanzanian community in preventing and combating poison incidents,” Dr Lutachunzibwa stated.
He also expressed his gratitude to the GCLA through the National Poison Control Centre (NPCC) for facilitating the training, noting that it equips health professionals with the necessary skills to handle poison cases.

Mr Yohana Goshashy, head of the NPCC, said the purpose of the training is to build the capacity of doctors, laboratory specialists and nurses to respond to emergency poison incidents.
“In Dodoma, there has been an increase in poison cases. Previously, Dodoma was not among the top 10 regions with poison incidents, but it has now entered that list.
This prompted us to provide this education to help prevent and manage these incidents,” Mr Goshashy explained.
Participants, including Dr Sister Teodora Mwasu and Dr Misana Yango, praised the GCLA for offering valuable training, which they believe will significantly enhance their efficiency in combating poison cases in the Dodoma Region.
