Grumeti Reserves heftily gifts its workers on May Day
Grumeti Reserves workers will mark this year’s May Day with joy and pageantry as the company is set to reward its long serving employees, best performers at the department level and overall best performer.
According to the Grumeti Reserves Head of People’s Management, Ms Martha Baare, this year’s Labour Day is special to Grumeti workers because besides the awards, the company has signed and implemented the long-awaited Collective Bargaining Agreement which has immensely improved their salaries and benefits.
‘’Staff benefits and salaries have been improved further through this important agreement between Union and Management,’’ Ms Baare said in Serengeti yesterday.
The Head of People’s Management meanwhile noted that the company has organized pre- labour day activities for the workers, focusing on staff health and wellness.
“The activities include football matches and May Day run aimed at recognizing workers who are devoted to keeping themselves fit,” she said.
Grumeti Reserves has three sister companies namely Grumeti Fund, Grumeti Construction and Grumeti Air and employs the largest number of workers, while its Tourism Department managed by Singita, carries the highest number of staff, according to Ms Baare.
Currently, Grumeti Company comprises 884 workers, out of whom 96.4 per cent are Tanzanians.
Of these, 60 per cent are hired from Mara Region and villages located near the Ikorongo-Grumeti Game Reserves and Ikona Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
Grumeti Reserves is an eco-tourism company that operates several world classes, luxurious lodges in Western Serengeti which forms integral part of the Serengeti ecosystem.
Creation of many jobs apart, the company which is owned by an American investor also supports conservation and community development activities in Western Serengeti.
