Green City derby lights up Mbeya

NBC Premier League

THE third round of NBC Premier League continues with a solo clash between Tanzania Prisons and Mbeya City at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya today.

Dubbed ‘Green City Derby’, the two sides meet after registering one win and succumbing to a defeat from their two matches of the ongoing campaign.

As such; they both have three points in the bag, hence a team which stamps a victory today will garner three more points.

Traditionally, whenever the two teams play, it has never been an easy match as each side battles to stamp authority in the  Green City, hence making the encounter highly competitive but very  interesting to watch.

In their previous games, Tanzania Prisons defeated Dodoma Jiji 2-1 in their league opener whereas Mbeya City suffered a 2-1 loss to Singida Big Stars in their season’s opener.

However, the league action continues tomorrow with one fixture. On the day Coastal Union welcome Polisi Tanzania at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.

The Tanga-based charges have momentarily shifted to Arusha from their Mkwakwani Stadium which has been suspended by the Licence Committee of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for lacking specific qualities.

Polisi Tanzania are still win-less from two matches hence a chance for them to taste their first victory of the league while Coastal Union are hunting for a second win that will give them six points.

Then on Sunday, a pair of two games will be played to officially wind up the third round. Singida Big Stars will take on Dodoma Jiji at Liti Stadium in Singida while Namungo will host Ruvu Shooting at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi.

A win to Singida Big Stars on the day will see them ascending to the summit of the table as they will claim nine points which no team can manage to reach.

This is so because both Young Africans and Simba dropped two point in their previous games after recording a 2-2 draw against Azam and KMC respectively  thereby ending their own winning streak of two matches.

As such, Hans Van Pluijm’s men will play hearts out to grab maximum points and command the premier league table before welcoming the fourth round.
