Govt urges sports teachers to tap into Malya College

MWANZA: THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Palamagamba Kabudi, has urged sports teachers across the country to seize the opportunities offered by the Malya College of Sports Development to elevate their skills and advance their professionalism in the field of sports.

Minister Kabudi made the call during the vibrant official launch of the 2025 National School Games UMITASHUMTA (for primary schools) and UMMISETA (for secondary schools) held recently in Iringa region.

These annual games are a cornerstone of Tanzania’s grassroots talent development, bringing together budding athletes from across the nation.

Speaking at the event, the minister emphasised the strategic importance of Malya College, located in Kwimba district of Mwanza region.

He described the institution as a potential national centre of excellence for sports education and training.

“Malya College is undergoing exciting developments, including the construction of a modern sports academy,” Kabudi noted.

“This facility will play a crucial role in nurturing talents discovered through initiatives like UMITASHUMTA and UMMISETA.”

The minister encouraged sports educators to take full advantage of the college’s growing resources and programmes.

“I urge all sports teachers to embrace Malya College as a hub for professional development. The knowledge and skills acquired there will not only enrich their careers but also significantly boost the growth of sports in Tanzania,” he said.

He also took a moment to recognise the collaborative spirit behind the success of the school games: “I commend the organisers of UMITASHUMTA and UMMISETA for their unwavering commitment to youth development. My gratitude goes to the government agencies, private sector partners, educators and most importantly, the young athletes themselves for their dedication and teamwork.”

Minister Kabudi emphasised that the well-organised games reflect a strong and growing synergy between the government and its development partners in promoting youth sports.

“These competitions are more than just games as well they are the foundation of Tanzania’s sporting future. They serve as a springboard for athletes who may one day represent our nation on continental and global stages.”
