Govt unveils ambitious employment drive

DODOMA: THE government yesterday announced 41,500 new job opportunities for the 2025/26 financial year, calling on qualified Tanzanians to seize the chance to serve their nation.

The positions span several key sectors, including education (12,176), health under local government authorities (10,280), agriculture (470), livestock (312), fisheries (47), security forces comprising the police (5,000), prisons (750), fire and rescue (1,000) and members of the immigration departments (443) and other cadres (11,022).

Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), Mr Juma Mkomi said in Dodoma that the government is implementing the employment plan outlined in Parliament for the 2025/26 fiscal year.

“By November this year, we expect all 86,500 job permits approved for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 financial years to have been filled, with the new employees reporting to their respective duty stations to help close existing human resource gaps,” Mr Mkomi said.

He directed the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) to expedite the recruitment process for all 2025/26 vacancies and to finalise pending placements for the 2024/25 year.

According to him, of the 45,000 vacancies announced in 2024, the government has already filled 30,680, while interviews for 6,701 applicants have been completed and their postings finalised.

He added that an additional 7,436 candidates who were recently interviewed are expected to report to their duty stations by November 2025.

Mr Mkomi directed all public institutions to collaborate closely with PSRS to ensure that the recruitment exercise is conducted transparently, efficiently and in full compliance with public service laws and regulations.

“Appointment letters and posting details will be available through applicants’ Ajira Portal accounts to eliminate the need for unnecessary travel to and from Dodoma,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the government remains firmly committed to strengthening the public service and enhancing service delivery across all sectors through strategic, transparent and meritbased employment initiatives
