DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports has committed to promoting “Singeli” music to achieve international recognition.
This commitment was highlighted by Deputy Minister Hamis Mwinjuma during a recent meeting with prominent figures in the Singeli music industry, including renowned manager Masoud Kandoro, known as Meneja Kandoro and popular Singeli radio host Samadu Abdalah.
Mwinjuma shared the government’s keenness to fostering the growth of this rapidly rising genre.
“Singing is part of our soul and this music represents our culture. It’s time we take Singeli music to the world,” said Mwinjuma at the meeting held at the Ministry’s offices at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that one of the main objectives is to enhance the quality of Singeli productions. After reviewing over 20 songs, Mwinjuma confirmed that plans are underway to improve their quality to meet international standards, ensuring that the genre can be appreciated worldwide.

Additionally, Mwinjuma announced the upcoming Singeli Festival, a significant event organised in collaboration with the Dar es Salaam regional authority.
The festival will feature street closures for two to three days, offering a vibrant celebration of Singeli music and culture.
The aim is not only to showcase the genre but also to elevate its status, ensuring that Singeli music receives the recognition and respect it deserves, especially as it continues to gain immense popularity within Tanzanian communities.
