Govt register’s $8.6m worth investments

DAR ES SALAAM: The government has registered 9,678 projects worth 8,658 million US dollars in 2023, marking a significant increase in investment compared to the previous year.

The Prime Minister  Kassim Majaliwa revealed this on Wednesday during the launch of five reports on business and investment environment reforms held in Dar es Salaam.

According to him, the number of registered projects in 2023 surpassed the 8,401 projects registered in 2022 valued at 5.56 million US dollars.

He said the surge in investments has also resulted in the creation of 195,803 direct jobs, more than 76,841 jobs generated in 2022.

PM attributed the positive investment outcomes to the government’s ongoing efforts in improving business environment and enhancing the efficiency of public institutions.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to further reforms that will facilitate smoother investment processes and attract more foreign and local investors.

“The government is focused on strengthening the operations and management of public institutions to ensure they serve the public efficiently, as it has been addressed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on August 28 during the Chairpersons of Boards and Chief Executive of Public Institutions and Government Agencies, ” Majaliwa stressed.

He also highlighted the development of the Tanzania Electronic Investment Window (TeIW), a system designed to streamline the investment registration process.

He said the first phase of creating the system has been completed and it integrates services from key institutions including the Tanzania Revenue Authority and the Tanzania Investment Center, The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) , National Identification Number Authority ( NIDA) and the Ministry for Land that allows investors to complete registration and obtain permits within three days.

Majaliwa also called on government institutions to expedite amendments to laws that hinder ease of doing business, reinforcing the government’s dedication to creating a more favorable environment for business and investment.
