Govt plans 23km new tarmac road linking Mlandizi to SGR stop

KIBAHA, COAST REGION: THE Minister for Works, Mr. Innocent Bashungwa has assured residents of Mlandizi in Kibaha District that the government is looking forward to constructing a tarmac road spanning 23 kilometers, starting from the Mlandizi bus stand to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) stop at Ruvu Station.

He made the announcement during a public meeting in Mlandizi division as part of his visit to the Coast Region early this week.

Mr. Bashungwa said the road is important for residents, stating that once completed, it will greatly facilitate access for those using SGR transport.

He noted that the new road will open up various economic opportunities for residents and create a favorable environment for industrial investors in the area.

“I have traveled this road and understand its importance, as it leads to the Standard Gauge Railway, the district hospital, and the industrial park. I want to assure you that the government is committed to ensuring this road is constructed at tarmac level so that you can fully benefit from it,” he stated.

Mr. Bashungwa directed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Regional Manager, Eng Baraka Mwambage to find a contractor to carry out initial maintenance work on the road and facilitate economic activities.

Regional Commissioner Mr. Abubakar Kunenge supported the Minister’s remarks, stating that the completed road will pave the way for numerous economic opportunities.

He also urged the government to prioritize all roads in the region that are linked to strategic projects to attract more investors.

He revealed that over the past three years, the region has received a total of 1.3tri/- from the government, which has been allocated to various projects, including the construction of schools, health centers, water projects, electricity, road construction, and other development projects.
