Govt pays over 47bn/- to sacked civil servants

DODOMA: THE government has confirmed the disbursement of a total of 47.02bn/- to 15,288 former public servants who were dismissed from service for forging academic certificates, in line with a directive issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Head of Communications in the President’s Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), Ms Mary Mwakapenda, the payments were made by the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), as instructed by the president during the 2022 International Workers’ Day celebrations held in Dodoma.

Ms Mwakapenda explained that the directive allowed the affected individuals to be refunded part of their social security contributions five per cent for those under PSSSF and ten per cent for those under NSSF.

“The implementation of this directive was officially communicated to all public institutions through a letter (Ref. CFC. 26/205/01‘AT’/20) dated October 31, 2022, from the Permanent Secretary,” the statement read. It further emphasised that the process was carried out transparently and with integrity.

The clarification follows a news report published by a local media on April 14th, this year, which alleged that the president’s directive had not been implemented
