Govt honours gallant U-19 men’s cricket team

TANZANIA’S Under 19 men’s cricket team has been commanded by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Sports, Damas Ndumbaro following their ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier triumphs.

Minister Ndumbaro has also encouraged the U-19 Women’s and Men’s teams to follow suit and bring more trophies home, making the nation proud at their forthcoming international competition.

Tanzania youths defeated Sierra Leone by 36 runs in Dar es Salaam last month following ten days of competitive action to lift the Africa Division 2 qualifier trophy.

Both teams however, progress in search of a spot at U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 alongside third placed Nigeria.

Ndumbaro, accompanied the Secretary General of the National Sports Council, Neema Msitha, paid a special visit to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) headquarters on Thursday to honour the U-19 Boys who brought glory to the nation last month.

Each player was presented with a certificate and a plaque from the NSC as a token of recognition for their incredible achievement.

At the same event, the Minister handed over flags to two national teams; the Tanzania U19 Women’s team, heading to Kigali for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier to captain Agnes Qwele.

The Tanzania Men’s team captain Abhik Patwa was also flagged off for their upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier A, set to begin next week in Dar es Salaam.

Both Ndumbaro and Msitha congratulated the U19 Boys for their stellar performance and encouraged the U19 Women’s and Men’s teams to follow suit and bring more trophies home, making the nation proud.

TCA Chairman Balakrishna Sreekumar, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the presence of the dignitaries, acknowledging the unwavering support they have shown towards Tanzanian cricket, a testament to their commitment to the growth of the sport.

Cricket Reunion Legends Group was also represented by Nizar Jivani past Chair of TCA, Dinesh Vaishnav past General Secretary, Gulam Dossaji past Board Member and National Umpire and Harish Patel Chairman of PBPS at the event.

“The event was evidence of proactive TCA leadership led by Sreekumar.

Our Reunion dates were announced and the presence of Legends was recognised.
