Govt hails TSN performance, calls for strengthening digital services
DEPUTY Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology Mr Kundo Mathew has asked the Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN) management to strengthen digital media services to attract more readers and boost revenue accrued from online market.
TSN is the government owned print media company that publishes the
Daily News, Sunday News, HabariLEO and SpotiLeo newspapers. It also offers digital media services, including engaging in commercial printing services.
Mr Mathew made the call yesterday when he toured the TSN headquarters in Dar es Salaam where he met with the company’s management, including seeing various activities carried out by the firm.
He said TSN has been performing well and the ministry was proud of publisher’s good work.
“I would like to commend you for your good work but following digital changes that continue to occur in the world you are supposed to generate digital content to attract more readers who will eventually boost online market revenue,” he said.
He said strengthening the digital media services was crucial due to the fact that changes in information technologies that continue to occur in the world are now making digital content the most preferred means of information sharing.
The deputy minister also directed the company to set up good strategies for managing digital printing machine project which is expected to kick off soon.
Eng Mathew said with the implementation of the digital printing machine project, the company will no longer depend on funds and other support from the government for running its businesses.
“This plant will enable TSN which was previously dependent on the central government financially to be independent. This project move will not only benefit the organisation, but also the country at large,” stated the deputy minister.
He lauded the TSN management for diversifying the company’s business, saying the new venture will be fruitful as the company stands to generate good income.
The deputy minister commended the board and management of the state-owned company for the impressive supervision and strategic plans which have so far been implemented since the idea of owning the printing plant was introduced to to-date.
On her part, TSN Managing Director Ms Tuma Abdallah said the company has been performing its duties of publishing newspapers and offering other printing services professionally.
She explained that despite printing newspapers for information dissemination to the public the company also generates digital content, including offering commercial printing services to boost the company’s revenue.
TSN is a government-owned publishing company headquartered along Nelson Mandela Expressway, at Tazara area in Dar es Salaam.
