THE government has increased water availability in Dar es Salaam Region after implementing strategic water projects worth more than 75bn/- all expected to be completed this month.
The projects are Mshikamano Water Supply Project which is being implemented at a cost of 5.4 bn/- , to serve Kibamba constituency and 2B2F project from Makongo water storage tanks to Bagamoyo Town worth 70bn/-.
“The two projects will increase water pressure in elevated areas of Dar es Salaam because the precious liquid will be drawn direct from the tanks to the users,” said Dar es Salaam Region Commissioner (RC), Amos Makala when he toured the projects on Friday.
According to him, Mshikamano Water Supply Project involved construction of water tank capable of storing 6 million litres and booster pump station.
“Ubungo and Kibamba residents get water from Upper Ruvu Water Treatment Plant… but the topography of the areas especially elevations pose challenge to water distribution due to low pressure in distribution pipes,” he said.
He said the construction of the water tank with capacity of 6 million litres will provide relief to the residents of Kwembe, Saranga, Msigani, Mbezi and Kibamba.
The RC commended President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts saying “This is a strategic project whose funding came through her efforts as she approved 5.4 bn/- as part of Covid -19 relief funds for implementation of the project.
In a related development, Mr Makala instructed the contractor to cooperate with the Dar es salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA)to ensure the projects are completed in mid this month and start serving the residents.
The RC also instructed DAWASA Communications Unit to raise awareness to Dar es Salaam residents on the importance of being connected to the services.
Regarding 2B2F project, DAWASA Chief Executive Officer, Eng Cyprian Luhemeja, said so far 1,230 km of primary pipelines have already been installed which is equivalent to 98.4 per cent of all desired coverage while 536 kilometres have already been completed and in full operation in Bagamoyo, Mbweni and Bunju Zones, supplying water to over 8,000 new customers.
Eng Luhemeja further said they will provide water connection services on credit with no interest to the new consumers to the both projects whereby repayment will be charged through water bills.
“In order to fast track the water connections in both projects of Mshikamano and 2B2F DAWASA will start to connect the new customers on credit for twelve months,” Eng Luhemeja pointed out.
Earlier, giving the report of 2B2F project, the Project Manager Eng Sean cleary unveiled both pump stations at Wazo and Mapinga have been completed and all mechanical and electrical plants installed and being prepared for commissioning, adding that the commissioning of Wazo pumps will start next week, while that of Mapinga the following week.
