Govt allocates 3bn/- for Arts, Culture

DODOMA: THE Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports has allocated a significant budget of 3bn/- for the Culture and Arts Fund in the 2024/25 fiscal year.

The docket Minister Damas Ndumbaro stated this when presenting his ministry’s budget, totalling 285bn/- in Parliament in Dodoma yesterday.

He outlined the planned activities under the Culture and Arts Fund, including offering loans to arts and cultural stakeholders to implement their creative works.

“The Culture and Arts Fund aims to provide subsidies and loans to artists, improve their capacities, formalise their work and support commercial endeavours,” he said.

In other areas Dr Ndumbaro said the ministry prioritised the African Liberation Heritage Centre’s budget of 2bn/-.

He stated that the funds will support a variety of initiatives at the centre, including research to discover liberation relics and creating studies on sites with African Liberation Heritage in the regions of Mwanza, Tabora, Tanga, Pwani, Kagera, and Ruvuma.

He also referenced the Julius Nyerere Liberation Cup and youthoriented liberation history teaching projects.

The Minister further stated that the Ministry has allotted 1.5bn/- for Bagamoyo College of Arts and Culture (TaSUBa) in the 2024/25 budget year.

The activities include starting the construction of a perimeter fence around the institution, purchasing learning and teaching materials, continuing infrastructure renovations, improving ICT and communication systems, improving wastewater and clean water systems, and finalising the procurement of equipment and infrastructure for the Bagamoyo International Arts and Culture Festival.

Minister Ndumbaro said that they have allocated 500m/- to support National Swahili Council (BAKITA) activities.

He stated that they want to create 100 Swahili teaching facilities overseas during the fiscal year 2024/25.

He stated that Tanzania’s embassies across the world will collaborate with the diaspora to teach Swahili as a foreign language in six nations.

Dr Ndumbaro also disclosed that the Art and Film Complex will get 300m/- in the fiscal year 2024/25.
