DODOMA: THE government has integrated patriotism education into Tanzania’s national curriculum to foster a culture of national pride among young Tanzanians.
Deputy Minister for Education, Mr Omari Kipanga, informed the National Assembly on Tuesday that the initiative aims to strengthen patriotic feelings, especially among youth, as part of the new education curriculum inspired by the recent National Education Policy.
Mr Kipanga was responding to Chumbuni MP Ussi Salum Pondeza’s question, who inquired about government plans to promote patriotism during this period of economic transformation.
The Deputy Minister explained that patriotism has always been promoted through various channels, including media and public events. Recognising the importance of instilling patriotism in both current and future generations, the government conducted a thorough review of the 2014 National Education Policy and curricula for early childhood, primary, secondary and teacher training in 2023.

Under the new curriculum amendments, patriotism education is prioritised and incorporated into the History of Tanzania subject, taught from early education through Form Six, starting in January 2024.
Mr Kipanga noted that this approach will help young Tanzanians develop a strong national spirit and contribute to national progress.
With a strategic use of cultural and historical resources, the government aims to deliver patriotism education in an extensive, persistent and impactful way.
Similar education is also being implemented across teacher training colleges nationwide.
