Government stresses ICT adoption
ARUSHA: THE government has directed public institutions with low eGovernment system adoption to accelerate their use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve efficiency.
The Minister of State in the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr George Simbachawene, issued the directive on Thursday while closing the 5th Annual e-Government Conference in Arusha.
The minister further instructed the public institutions that have yet to update and document their operational procedures to do so in order to enhance systems integration and data exchange.
The three days conference brought together approximately 1,500 stakeholders, including accounting officers, directors, ICT heads and system users from various public institutions, councils and agencies.
Mr Simbachawene stressed the government’s commitment to advancing ICT usage to align with global technological developments.
He explained that many economic and administrative activities worldwide now rely on digital systems.
The minister said the government will continue to prioritise research and innovation to strengthen cybersecurity and expand internet accessibility.
Through the e-Government Authority (e-GA), efforts are underway to enhance digital service delivery and improve nationwide mobile communication, enabling Tanzanians to access government services conveniently and affordably, he said.
“We take great pride in the steadily increasing number of mobile phone and internet users each year. This growth motivates us to further boost government service delivery through mobile technology, showcasing Tanzania’s progress in digital transformation,” Mr Simbachawene said.
Minister Simbachawene urged public institutions to take full advantage of the digital expansion to improve services for citizens through mobile platforms.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary in the State House, Mr Mululi Mahendeka acknowledged the significance of such conferences in fostering e-Government initiatives.
He assured that all resolutions from the meeting would be implemented promptly by the relevant ministries, e-GA, and other institutions.
Moreover, e-GA Director General Engineer Benedict Ndomba stressed the importance of continued government support in creating an enabling environment for the authority to execute its mandate effectively.
