Government shake-up goes on

  • Samia rings changes in water, tourism sector
  • Axe fall on Water PS, NCAA boss

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has made significant changes in government appointments aimed at enhancing performance in public offices and improving service delivery to citizens.

Three government officials have had their appointments revoked, while four new officials have been appointed to various positions.

A statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications issued on Friday evening outlined the changes made by the Head of State, whereby Mr Ephraim Mafuru has been appointed as the new Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).

Mr Mafuru, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), takes over from Mr Damasi Mfugale.

Furthermore, Mr Ally Gugu has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, replacing Mr Kaspar Mmuya, who was previously the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) in Dodoma Region.

Mr Mmuya, in turn, will assume the role of RAS in Dodoma Region, taking over from Mr Gugu.

Before his new assignment, Mr Mmuya served as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Another appointment made by President Samia is that of Engineer Mwajuma Waziri as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Water.

Engineer Waziri, previously the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Water, replaces Prof Jamal Katundu, whose appointment has been revoked.

In a related development, President Samia revoked the appointment of Mr Richard Kiiza as the Commissioner for Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA).
