DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government is set to roll out a new initiative aimed at revolutionising arts and culture education across the country.

Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Damas Ndumbaro, has revealed plans to establish educational centres dedicated to nurturing the next generation of skilled artists.

This strategic move is part of a broader effort to enhance the country’s creative industries and stimulate economic growth.

According to Ndumbaro, the government is ramping up its support for the Bagamoyo Institute of Culture and Arts (TaSUBa).

The first phase of this initiative will see the launch of new centres in Dar es Salaam and Ruvuma, where targeted short courses will be offered.

These courses are designed to meet the unique needs of local communities, aiming to develop young talent and provide them with the skills required for successful careers in arts and culture.

Speaking at a parliamentary committee meeting in Dodoma on Tuesday, Ndumbaro underscored the critical role of TaSUBa in shaping Tanzania’s artistic landscape.

“TaSUBa has become an essential hub for training art practitioners, managers and researchers both nationally and internationally.

“The institute is instrumental in elevating artistic standards and fostering a deeper appreciation for Tanzanian culture, while also using art as a tool to tackle societal issues,” Ndumbaro said.

In light of these developments, committee members advised TaSUBa to intensify its outreach efforts, particularly targeting young people.

They recommended revising admission policies to include those without secondary education and urged the Ministry to consider financial aid for students pursuing creative disciplines.

Such measures are seen as crucial for increasing enrolment and acknowledging the significant role of the arts in societal advancement
