Government commits to upgrade dance music
THE government said it is committed to upgrade the standard and value of dance music so as to boost the artist’s status and elevate their income.
The Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Mohamed Mchengerwa, made the remarks on Wednesday during the dance music festival.
At the event, he told the stakeholders that the government, through his Ministry, intends to set plans to impact the dance music industry.
Adding, Mchengerwa said they saw the importance of reviving dance music as it holds the history of Tanzanian culture before and after the independence.
“We aim to restore Tanzanian dance music as it has made a great contribution to our country, including supporting the liberation movement of our nation,” said Mchengerwa.
The Minister said the government will organise a mega dance music festival in Dar es Salaam that will invite dancing music artists from across the country and celebrate their talents on one stage.
“I urge all dance musicians, artists, singers and composers of various songs to use this opportunity to promote themselves and uplift dance music in the country,” said Mchengerwa.
Mchengerwa also said they expect to find many old songs that will remind Tanzanians about the courage, patriotism, liberation and nationalism of Tanzanians.
Before the event, the Executive Secretary of the National Arts Council Kedmon Mapana urged the dance musicians to avoid and quickly settle conflicts when they occur.
He insisted that doing so will quickly help them work with the government to achieve its dance music goals in the country.
“For the festival to be successful, dance music artists must put their differences aside and work together to help the government’s efforts to revive dance music,” said Mapana.
