Government applauds KWSC for empowering youths through sports

KILIMANJARO: THE government has commended Kilimanjaro Wonders Sports Centre (KWSC) for its impactful role in youth empowerment and sports development, as the centre marked its third anniversary over the weekend.
The celebration, held at the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) grounds in the Kilimanjaro region, brought together athletes, government officials, sponsors and sports stakeholders.
Addressing the event, Minister for Finance, Mwigulu Nchemba hailed KWSC and its partners for aligning with the government’s agenda of promoting sustainable youth development through sports.
“The government remains committed to supporting initiatives that identify and nurture young talent,” he said.
“KWSC and its partners, including Kili Icon, are doing commendable work in producing the next generation of athletes and economically empowering the youth.”
Nchemba noted that sports development is not only a tool for physical engagement but also a strategic avenue for employment creation, social inclusion and economic growth.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure and policies to support both local and international competitiveness, while calling on more private sector investment in youth-focused sports programmes.
“KWSC has become a key sports development hub in northern Tanzania,” he said.
“By offering platforms for young athletes to train and compete and building partnerships with Tanzanian Premier League teams and international clubs, the centre is opening doors for youths to pursue professional sports careers.”
KWSC Director, Lauren Kinabo reaffirmed the centre’s dedication to expanding its reach and impact.
“Our vision is to become a leading force in sports development by investing in young talent and creating long-term opportunities for growth,” Kinabo said.
“This commitment not only nurtures future athletes but also supports broader national goals such as youth empowerment, job creation and elevating sports as a viable career path.”
