Giniki stamp authority in Ngorongoro Marathon

ATHLETE Shing’ade Giniki put up a spirited show to win 21km Ngorongoro Half Marathon held yesterday morning in Karatu, Arusha.

The winner clocked 1 hour, 04 minutes and 41 seconds in a tense finish at Mazingira Bora stadium.

Four second behind the winner came Mathayo Sombi  who claimed the overall runner up in 1 hour, 04 minutes and 46 seconds while veteran athlete Fabian Joseph finished third overall after spending 1:06:32 on the road .

The 21km race for women saw Anjelina Yumba claiming number one position in 1:17:02 ahead of the second-positioned Fatuma Malema who clocked 1:33:31 while Debora Benedicto who finished third overall spent 01:35:38 on the road.

The Ngorongoro race coordinator Meta Petro hailed all participants  and sponsors whose presence gave the race a huge success.

Among the sponsors he mentioned include Ngorongoro Conservation Authority and Bonite Bottlers.

The event was graced by Karatu District Commissioner Dadi Kolimba  who said this year’s Ngorongoro Marathon drew a huge number of participants compared to the past events.

“I would like to call upon Tanzanians to continue supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan in her Royal Tour campaign that sensitises on using sports and culture to promote the country’s tourism,” he said.

Bonite Bottlers official in Karatu, Livin Edes Olotu said the firm is committed to continue supporting the race next time.
