GGML commits to advance community projects in line with CSR obligations

GEITA: GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of social services through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme as well as sponsorship initiatives.
The GGML Director of Development and Relations, Mr Gilbert Mworia, said this on October 01, 2026 during a forum on opportunities arising from GGML’s presence at the Ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition, held at the Dkt Samia Suluhu Grounds in Geita Municipality.
He said that, in accordance with the law, GGML sets aside 9.2bn/- annually for CSR activities in Geita District Council and Geita Municipal Council, which are used to improve the education, health, roads and water sectors.
Mr Mworia said that, apart from the CSR programme, GGML also spends an average of 13bn/- to 15bn/- annually to support institutions, organisations, the government and individuals in various areas.
He added that GGML undertakes all these initiatives in recognition of its responsibility as an investor to support the communities surrounding its operations, thereby maintaining the community’s acceptance and enabling the company to carry out its activities peacefully.
“As a company, we undertake social responsibility initiatives for the communities surrounding us, not only in Geita but also in various areas across the country,” Mr Mworia said.
Mr Mworia cited some of the company’s sponsorship projects, including its partnership with the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), under which the company has signed a three-year agreement to support children suffering from heart conditions.
He also said that the company operates a medical services vessel that provides healthcare services to residents living on 10 islands in Lake Victoria, particularly in Geita, Mwanza and Kagera regions.

“GGML has constructed more than 1,000 classrooms, over 150 health centres and dispensaries, and has also contributed to the construction and improvement of hospitals,” Mr Mworia said.
He explained that the company’s contribution extends beyond social development projects, noting that it also contributes to the economy through investment, employment, procurement of goods and services from local companies, as well as tax payments.
GGML Procurement Officer Mr Silas Shija said the presence of GGML and mining activities in the region creates opportunities for local traders through the value chain.
Mr Silas urged Tanzanian entrepreneurs and business owners to prepare early and meet legal requirements in order to benefit from employment opportunities and tenders offered by GGML.
Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary in charge of Economy and Production, Dr Elfasi Msenya, urged GGML to continue collaborating with government institutions, including insurance companies and social security funds, to establish social security for its employees.
