GGML, CCBRT donate 55 wheelchairs in Geita

GEITA: Geita Gold Mining Company Limited (GGML) in partnership with Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) have provided some 55 wheelchairs and assistive devices to people living with disabilities in Geita region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, GGML Managing Director, Terry Strong, said that the donation was part of the company’s goal of raising the living standards of the villagers including those living with disabilities.

“This is one of several healthcare initiatives we have undertaken in partnership with the CCBRT, ” Mr Strong said.

CCBRT’s Clinician Neophita Lukiringi said that assisting people with disabilities, especially providing them with proper wheelchairs is one of the ways to raise their living standards.

“That was why GGML saw the need and decided to help them towards seeing into it that they also take part in the socio-economic development of their families,” she pointed out.

Gracing the occasion, Geita District Commissioner, Col Boniphace Maghembe, commended CCBRT for partnering with GGML to provide professional training on the correct use of such equipment and to give proper advice to people with disabilities.
