Geita DC wants WEO, VEO to control crimes
THE Geita District Commissioner (DC), Mr Colnery Magembe has urged Ward Executive Officers (WEO), Village Executive Officers (VEO) and village chairmen to use alternative measures to control murder incidents and other crimes in their respective areas.
DC Magembe made the statement recently when he met with Nyarugusu villagers in Geita District and explained that the village leaders have a great chance to contain such incidents, including murders.
He added that both village and ward leaders have a great opportunity to expose the criminals including thieves and robbers for the police force to take actions against them.
“We have reached a point where the district seems not stable, and I, as the head of the district, cannot allow people to live in fear. I issue a warning to criminal suspects in our district, if you are still engaging in such activities you should stop,” he said, adding:
“And if there are reported murderers in a certain village, the one we will start with is either the village chairman or executive officers, so let them be on the frontline towards the fight against criminal acts.”
He directed both village chairman and executive officers to be guards and chiefs of security in their areas, by providing information at all levels to control the incidents of vandalism.
“If you rely on the police and presidential appointees we won’t achieve our goal of promoting peace and security, everybody should be responsible since the police force cannot meet all the security needs,” emphasised Mr Magembe.
