DAR ES SALAAM: GAMING Board of Tanzania (GBT) has said in 20 years of operation it managed to register some successes including increasing its contribution to the economy.
The performance according to the statement, increased year by year, marking a positive direction if the board compared to the previous trend.
The GBT notable achievement is the tax contribution that increased to 170.43bn/- in 2022/23 from merely 2.8bn/-in 2006/07.
The statement showed that the gaming sector is currently contributing 5.0 per cent of tax revenue collection from sports betting.
“The board has also managed to increase youth employment and attract some 67 investor companies,” the statement said.
The board’s contribution to community development specifically on creating employment opportunities also climbed to 25,000 in 2022/23 from just 600 in 2006/07.
Furthermore, the board has also stimulated creativity in implementing various gaming types which led to the increase from just three in 2003 to seven in this year.
Additionally, GBT has also managed to attract more companies to invest in the gaming business where it successfully increased the number to 53 by this year from nine companies by 2003.
