MOROGORO: IN a rather dramatic turn of events, Morogoro Police have arrested Abubakary Mwichangwe (29), a fuel tanker driver, for allegedly pilfering 35,000 litres of fuel valued at 77M/- The theft, which took place on March 16 in Msimba Village, Kilosa District, involved some behind-the-scenes collaboration with fuel station managers, making this a wellplanned heist, until it all went up in flames—literally.
Mwichangwe, driving a tanker with the registration T.661 BXW, decided to leave the stolen fuel in the hands of fate, by setting the tanker on fire to cover his tracks.
However, his plan was foiled when some quickthinking locals extinguished the blaze before the evidence could be fully erased.

Mwichangwe then fled the scene, but not for long. Thanks to some sharp detective work, the police tracked him down and apprehended him, though they Are keeping the location of his arrest under wraps while they continue their investigation.
The search for other accomplices, including the fuel station managers in on the scheme, is ongoing.
One thing is for sure that Mwichangwe’s attempt to burn the evidence may have backfired, but he will soon be burning with regret.
