Four teams in tricky PL action

TABORA: THE second round of the Premier League continues today with two interesting matches as Tabora United host Azam FC while Geita Gold welcome Ihefu FC.

Azam with 35 points in their bag have a chance to return to the second place on the table and leapfrog Simba who are on 36 points by defeating Tabora United at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora today.

A win to Azam will see them accumulating 38 points from 16 games thereby overtaking the current second-placed Simba SC who have collected 36 points in 15 matches.

At a pre-match briefing yesterday, Azam coach Bruno Ferry said they are ready for the game and that their main focus is to win.

“We have a tough game against them (Tabora United) because they are a good team with good players and they play well, especially at their home venue. “For us, we just need to be cautious throughout the game, we have what it takes to battle against them and that is the most important thing,” he said.

In their previous match, Azam secured a late 2-1 win over Geita Gold at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam to bag important three points from the home venue. On his part, Tabora United coach Goran Kopunovic also said they are well prepared to face the Ice Cream makers’ side while predicting a tough game.

“They are among the best performing teams in the league so far, we are aware that they also have competent players but we are going to do our part to succeed over them,” he said.

He also observed that playing at home is a platform for their fans to come in numbers and give them full backing which he said will energise players to work hard.

In their last game, the Taborabased club was held to a 1-1 draw by Namungo and are lately occupying 14th place with 16 points from 15 encounters. On the other hand, Geita Gold coach Dennis Kitambi said he is hopeful that his charges will deliver after dropping three points in their previous game.

“We tried to sort out some of the challenges that emerged in our past game, and I believe that we are good to go,” he said.

Ihefu trainer Mecky Mexime also reiterated that they are in good shape to battle for the triumph though it is a tough match for both sides and the duo meet at Nyankumbu Stadium in Geita.
