Four children die in Bukoba wall collapse

KAGERA: RESIDENTS in Bukoba Municipality are mourning the sudden death of four children from two families who died in a tragic accident that occurred yesterday morning at Anyama Street in Hamugembe Ward, Bukoba Municipality.
Deputy Officer-inCharge of the Fire and Rescue Force, Superintendent of Fire (SPF) Joseph Ngonyani, identified the deceased as Mania Mikidadi Ally (4) and Nuniad Mikidadi Ally (10), both girls from the family of Mr Mikidadi Ally.
Others were Elizabeth Edmund (12) and Edwin Edmund (10), from the family of Mr Edmund Matungwa.

SPF Ngonyani said the accident occurred at around 6:20 a.m. after a wall of the nearby Perfect Hotel collapsed onto their houses. He said the four children died on the spot, while another child was rescued and rushed to Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital (BRRH), where he is receiving treatment.
A medical officer at BRRH, Dr Charles Kahigi, confirmed receiving the bodies of the four children, which are being preserved at the hospital mortuary. He added that the surviving child is in stable condition.
SPF Ngonyani cautioned residents to avoid the area as investigations into the incident continue. Bukoba District Commissioner (DC) Erasto Sima also confirmed the incident, urging residents to remain alert during the ongoing rains.
