Fountain Gate set for CAF School conquest

FOUNTAIN Gate have pledged to represent well the country at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental final slated from April 5th to 8th in Durban South Africa.

They won the ticket to parade at the contest after emerging winners of the African Schools Football Championship-CECAFA in girls category held in Dar es Salaam recently.

As such, they have a task to get the better of teams from other regions across the continent which also shined during the same competition in order to clinch the continental silverware.

However, the team’s coordinator Kelvin Shaban reiterated that they have had enough preparations and are ready to invade South Africa to compete for the honour.

“If we managed to qualify here by beating other secondary schools drawn from different parts of the continent, we believe that we can do the same thing in South Africa and win the championship.

“It is a good challenge to us to compete with other best teams from different places, but our focus is to make sure that we emerge winners and make Tanzanians proud,” he said.

Moreover, he disclosed that the success of his side will be a step further in promoting women football in the country as demanded by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“We know that our president is advocating for the growth of sports in the country and we are doing it from the grassroots level where real talent is tapped and nurtured,” he said.

Aside from Tanzania, other competing teams have been drawn from Morocco, Gambia, Benin, Congo-Brazzaville, Seychelles and hosts South Africa.

It mainly involves young players aged between 12-15 to showcase their talents on the battlefield and create memories that will last forever.

According to available information, a winning team walks away with 300,000 US Dollars , runners up bag 200,000 US dollars while third place occupants pocket 150,000 US dollars.
