TANZANIA: FOUNTAIN Gate have announced the appointment of Kenyan tactician, Robert Matano as their new head coach, confirmed through the club’s official social media channels yesterday evening.
Matano takes over from Mohamed Muya, who was relieved of his duties in December, following a string of disappointing performances.
Renowned for his extensive experience and successful coaching record in East Africa, Matano will lead the team into the second half of the Mainland Premier League season.
His appointment comes after a thorough search by the club’s management, who aimed to bring in an experienced coach to revitalise the team’s performance.
Fountain Gate currently sit on sixth place in the league table, a position that resulted from a disappointing run of results where they played eight matches since October 25, with only one victory, one draw and six losses. The decision to part ways with Muya was made in light of the unsatisfactory results.
Matano, a four-time winner of the Kenyan Premier League, is known for his disciplined coaching style and ability to maximise player potential.
He previously led Sofapaka FC to a title in their debut season in 2009 and has claimed league championships with Tusker F.C. in 2012, 2020/21, and 2021/22.

Fountain Gate FC are optimistic that his tactical expertise will inspire the team towards a stronger performance in the league.
As the Mainland Premier League enters a two-month pause, Fountain Gate are taking proactive steps by returning to training early to prepare for the second half of the season.
The team begin its training camp today, with players already reporting back. The club’s spokesperson, Issa Liponda, shared updates with the media, confirming that a specialised training programme has been implemented, with players arriving back in camp to gear up for the remainder of the season.
“Our focus is to come back stronger, aiming to improve our position and finish in the top five,” Liponda stated.
He also noted that new signings during the transfer window are anticipated to inject fresh energy into the squad, ensuring they are in peak condition for the challenges ahead.
