Fire expert’s cautions over fire accidents during New Year celebrations
THE Fire and Rescue Force in Mwanza has cautioned of gatherings such as in business areas such as restaurants, hotels, bars and clubs to make sure they adhere to fire safety guidelines.
The moves come in an effort to prevent fire accidents during this festival season specifically in New Year celebrations.
Mwanza Acting Fire Rescue Regional Commander, Inspector Ms Makeso Makongoro told the “Daily News” yesterday that all restaurants, hotels as well as bars should cross check their fire extinguishers to ensure that they function well and be of useful in case of any incident
He said no hotel or restaurant has been allowed to operate without meeting fire safety requirements to ensure people’s safety.
Ms Makongoro further urged vehicle owners including public buses as well as private cars to make sure they have fire extinguishers and continue to adhere to traffic rules and regulations including road signs.
“We are well prepared to see citizens celebrating the New Year without inconveniences, we call upon them to cooperate with the force by avoiding any actions that can lead to fire accidents” Ms.Makongoro noted.
She added that, citizens are required to call number 114 in case of any fire accident.
For his part, New Mwanza Hotel Assistant Manager, Mr. Oscar Robert said they adhere to fire safety guidelines including conducting close repair on their hotel electricity system like wiring as per the regional fire police’s directives to prevent fire accident catastrophe.
He called upon citizens to visit the hotel as they celebrate their New Year as the holiday refreshment peaks.
