Film sheds light on efforts to protect Ngorongoro rhinos
DAR ES SALAAM: NGOTEYA Wild has launched a new conservation film, The Rhinos of Ngorongoro – A Conservation Story, to mark World Rhino Day, observed annually on September 22.
Produced in collaboration with the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), the film highlights efforts to protect rhinos in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area while telling the stories of the people working behind the scenes to ensure the survival and wellbeing of the endangered animals.
The film offers an inside look at the lives of rhinos in Ngorongoro and the daily conservation work involving protection, monitoring and veterinary care.
Ngorongoro plays an important role in rhino conservation, providing a habitat for both black and white rhinos.
Rather than focusing solely on the animals, The Rhinos of Ngorongoro also follows conservation rangers, trackers and wildlife veterinarians whose combined expertise and dedication are critical to monitoring rhino populations and safeguarding their health and security.
The film shows how conservation teams use skills ranging from identifying tracks to monitoring rhino movements, requiring close cooperation and a deep understanding of the area’s environment.
It also emphasises that successful rhino conservation cannot be achieved by one group alone, but requires cooperation among rangers, trackers, veterinarians, ecologists, leaders, local communities and other conservation stakeholders.
The film further highlights the importance of protection, monitoring, expertise, technology and community involvement in ensuring that rhinos remain part of Ngorongoro’s natural heritage for future generations.
Through the production, Ngoteya Wild brings viewers closer to the work taking place behind the scenes to protect Ngorongoro’s rhinos, shifting the focus beyond wildlife imagery to the people, expertise and commitment that make conservation possible every day.
The film was directed by Hans Cosmas Ngoteya in collaboration with NCAA and the wider Ngoteya Wild team.
