TWO people identified themselves as ‘police officers’ have attacked and seriously injured three members of a family at Isima village, Geita district.
The Geita District Commissioner (DC), Cornel Magembe confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday and explained that he had ordered the police force to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.
“The attackers are not police officers as they had introduced themselves, instead, they are considered as bandits who will be searched for and be arrested,” DC Magembe told journalists on Monday.
Speaking to journalists while receiving treatment at Geita Town Council Hospital, one of the injured persons said that the incident occurred on July 16 around 3am.
The victim, Mr Riziki Mtoni, said the attackers went to his house and told him that they were police officers, that he was accused of cultivating marijuana and that he was under arrest.
He said that after he opposed the order, the men started attacking him with swords and sticks and later locked him in, then took corn in sacks and left.
As they were leaving, they met Mtoni’s younger brother; they also started attacking him with knives, injuring him before they disappeared to unknown place.
“They took two sacks of corn, a cash 45,000/- and a phone. I became unconscious after they hit me on my head with a stick, it was between 3am and 4am,” he explained.
Another injured person, Mr Emanuel Steven, said that after seeing the attackers, he tried to run but they caught him and started attacking him with machetes, leading to serious injuries.
The nurse in charge of the Geita Town Council Hospital, Mr Emanuel Singu, said they received three injured people; two males and one female on July 16 and were receiving treatment.
“Their conditions were serious; one was unconscious and bleeding. At the arrival you could think he was dead, but he is alive. We performed surgeries on them, now their conditions have improved,” said the nurse.
