Extension officers challenged to reach out to cotton farmers
EXTENSION officers in Chamwino District have been urged to go out to the farmers for educating them about better cotton farming.
The call has been made by ambassador of cotton crop in the country, Mr Aggrey Mwanri, while talking to officials in the district recently.
His call was in line with government’s move to promote cotton as strategic crop in Chamwino.
Mwanri, who is former MP, told the officials that the move will enable the farmers in the district to follow the procedures and instructions given regarding the better farming to increase productivity.
He emphasized that farmers should follow the steps and guidelines for the cultivation of the crop, as the land and climate of Chamwino favour the cultivation of cotton.
“If extension officers fulfill their duties there will be a boom in cotton production in the district,” he said.
Moreover, he noted that the government has increased the ongoing efforts regarding cotton cultivation.
“Small farmers should be brought closer and given more motivation. This plan could increase productivity in cotton production, “he noted.
“The farmers would have high yields and benefits if they have followed those better practices to grow cotton as suggested by experts,” Mr Mwanri revealed this during his tour in Dodoma region.
Ambassador Mwanri thanked the authorities in the council for inspiring big number of citizens to participate in the training which he hosted.
During the training, Mwanri distributed various agricultural equipment to extension officers on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture.
The equipment distributed included hoses, gumboots and raincoats
