EWURA, ERB to enhance energy collaboration

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania’s Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) and Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) have agreed to strengthen cooperation in key economic and infrastructural areas to improve energy services in both countries.

Following a meeting at the ERB’s offices in Lusaka on Monday, it was announced that the two organisations will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their collaboration in the agreed-upon areas.

Key areas of cooperation between EWURA and ERB include the exchange of technical, economic, and infrastructure-related information, capacity building for experts, and sharing professional experiences.

“One of the major achievements of our cooperation is the joint inspection of the TAZAMA Oil Pipeline. This inspection has not only improved the safety and efficiency of this critical infrastructure but also demonstrates our commitment to enhancing regulatory standards in the region,” said Prof Mwandosya.

ERB Board Chairperson Mr James Banda said that this partnership is an essential step toward advancing the sectors under their regulation.

He noted that the signing of the MoU will further drive the enhancement of energy services and improve operational efficiency in both neighbouring countries.

Before the meeting, Prof Mwandosya, along with board members and management, conducted an inspection of the TAZAMA Oil Pipeline, which stretches from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to Ndola, Zambia.

The aim of the inspection was to assess operational challenges and explore potential solutions.

During the visit, which began on March 21st, this year, the Chairman of EWURA’s Energy Committee, Ngosi Mwihava, explained that the visit’s objective was to review the pipeline’s operations, economic aspects, and infrastructure.

“One of EWURA’s key responsibilities in the petroleum sector is regulating the infrastructure used for transporting oil and natural gas.

This visit specifically targets the pipeline, to identify challenges and find solutions to improve oil transportation services,” Mwihava said.
