EU, Tanzania deepen Vision 2050 trade ties
THE European Union (EU) and Tanzania have agreed to deepen trade and investment cooperation to spur economic growth and fasttrack implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.
The agreement was reached after high-level talks that brought together representatives of EU member states, the EU Delegation, European business groups and key government institutions responsible for facilitating trade and investment.
Among the participating institutions were the Immigration Department, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), reflecting the broad institutional effort to improve the business environment.
Minister of State in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), Prof Kitila Mkumbo, said the engagement enabled both sides to assess progress in improving the investment climate and identify obstacles requiring immediate attention.
“The forum enabled both sides to review progress in improving the business climate and identify challenges requiring swift action,” Prof Mkumbo said. He said the government remains committed to creating a competitive and investor-friendly environment that attracts productive investment, drives economic growth and delivers broader benefits to citizens.
Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, said the ministry will continue linking international investors and traders with relevant authorities to ensure global investments contribute effectively to national development goals.

On the EU side, French Ambassador Anne-Sophie Avé and Irish Ambassador Nicola Brennan, who co-chaired the talks, said the bloc remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Tanzania, with trade and investment at the centre of supporting Vision 2050.
The engagement follows the Tanzania-EU Political Dialogue held in June this year, underscoring continued cooperation between the two sides on expanding investment opportunities and strengthening economic ties.
