Ethiopia to determine Tanzania fate in All Africa Games

ETHIOPIA: TANZANIA’S Under-20 Women’s Football Team ‘Tanzanite’ face Ethiopia in a decisive match of the All Africa Games women’s football tournament today.

The game at Elmina Stadium in Accra, Ghana is the third and last match for Tanzanite in Group A, which they need to win to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-final spot.

Currently, the envoys have generated one point from two matches after a 1-1 draw against Uganda in their opening match of the contest. In their second game, they suffered a 2-1 defeat from the hosts Ghana despite taking an early lead through Hasnath Linus, who put Tanzanite upfront in the 23rd minute.

Ghana responded via Tracy Twum who scored before halftime and Mukarama Abdulai sealed the deal for Ghana in the 63rd when she scored the winner for her side. As such, if Tanzanite outclasses Ethiopia, they will claim 4 points similar to Uganda who have 4 points after two matches and will face Ghana in their last duel.

If Ghana win over Uganda and Tanzanite defeat Ethiopia, then goal difference will be determined to find a team that will join Ghana THAT HAS already made it to the last four.

In terms of goal difference, Uganda have +2 after scoring 3 goals and conceding one goal in two matches they have played, while Tanzanite have -1 after netting 2 goals and conceding 3 goals in the process.

In group A after two matches apiece, Ghana are at the peak of the table with 6 points seconded by Uganda with 4 points, while Tanzania is third with 1 point and Ethiopia sit at the bottom win-less and point-less.

It has been a poor campaign for Ethiopia that is still searching for their first win and first goal in the competition though they have already missed a chance to slide in the semis.
