Ethics tribunal to question public leaders over misconducts

THE Ethics Tribunal is set to grill nine public service leaders today over allegation of power misuse and code of ethics misconduct.

Statement issued here on Monday by the Ethics Commissioner, Justice Sivangilwa Mwangesi, said they submitted the complaints to the Tribunal for open hearing and investigations over the allegations.

The Ethics Secretariat is an independent department of the Government under the President’s Office which is established under Article 132 of the 1977 Constitution of the Tanzania.

Its main function is to implement the Public Leadership Code of Ethics Act, No. 13 of 1995 specifically to monitor the ethical conduct of public leaders.

In the statement, the Ethics Commissioner said the members of the public are welcomed to the open ethics tribunal investigations hearing scheduled for September 6 to 12, 2022 at the Dodoma Regional Commissioner’s conference hall.

The last time, the Ethics Commissioner lodged such allegation to the Ethics Tribunal was in 2015.

The Ethics Secretariat is promoting and enforcing ethical principles which are obligatory requirements among all public leaders in the course of implementing their official responsibilities as per the Public Leadership Code.

The aim of imposing these principles is to enhance public confidence on the integrity of public leaders and in the decision making process in the government.
