ETDCO board impressed by power transmission project

TABORA: THE Board of Directors of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company (ETDCO) has expressed satisfaction with the effective management of the 132-kilovolt power transmission project from Tabora to Katavi.

Speaking in Tabora Region during an inspection tour of the project, the Board Chairman, Mr Raymond Mbilinyi, said that the project’s progress is satisfactory, adding that by the end of June this year, electricity from the national grid will have reached Mpanda District in Katavi Region.

“We are satisfied with the progress of the 132-kilovolt power transmission project from Tabora to Katavi, which is currently at 96 per cent completion,” said Mr Mbilinyi.

On his part, ETDCO Acting General Manager CPA Sadock Mugendi, informed the board that the construction of the project is going well and is currently in the final stages of line inspection.

He added that by the end of June 2025, the project will be 100 per cent complete and electricity will have reached Katavi Region.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) Western Zone Director, Engineer Richard Swai, said that the completion of the project will enhance the reliability of electricity supply in the Tabora and Katavi regions.

Engineer Swai urged the residents of the two regions to prepare to receive electricity from the national grid, which will stimulate economic activities and development through various sectors such as agriculture, industry, processing, and value addition of produce.
