ERB urges registered, licensed engineers to renew licences
THE Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has urged all registered and licensed engineers to renew their licences before December 31, 2022.
Speaking in Dodoma on Thursday, the ERB Registrar Engineer Bernad Kavishe said that they expect to renew 26,000 practicing licences because all the engineers’ licences are issued within a period of three years, after which each licence needs to be renewed.
“I inquire all the engineers who have been registered and given licences to renew them, this is a lawful need and the renewal process will start on 28th November, 2022” said Eng Kavishe.
The renewal of licences will help engineers to be up to date on their professional matters as well as securing public safety interest from all other users of engineers services.
He mentioned that they are expecting to renew more than 26,000 practicing engineering professionals’ licences, which include Professional Engineers licences, Incorporated Engineers licences and Consulting Engineers licences.
Eng Kavishe said that since the ERB started in 1968, they have registered 33,773 engineers, the number which includes 398 consulting engineering companies consisting of 275 local and 123 foreign companies.
They have also registered 40 Engineering Laboratories, 70 independent individuals and 1979 Standard Technicians.
The ERB are also expecting to implement their 2022/2023 priorities so as to ensure the board is reaching their goals by regulating all the engineers’ activities around the country by registering engineers and consulting companies, regulate engineering activities by ensuring all engineering activities are being done by registered companies as well as developing engineer’s knowledge.
“We expect to implement some of our priorities as strategic projects, such as renewal of licences as explained, to build professionals’ ability to local engineers by performing different professional trainings and make changes on the Engineers Registration Act No. 15 of 1997” he said.
Eng Kavishe said that the Board will also implement the construction of an engineering centre of excellence at Kizota area, the Centre will consist of engineering laboratories, conference halls with video-conference technology, workshops, hostels and other activities as proposed in the process.
