Energy firms earn kudos for high safety standards

DAR ES SALAAM: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko has commended Total Energies and Super Star Forwarders (SSF) for achieving outstanding road safety standards in cargo transportation.

He urged other transporters to emulate these companies, describing them as exemplary models in the sector.

Dr Biteko made the remarks on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam during the 30th anniversary celebrations of the partnership between SSF and Total Energies.

“Today, we celebrate 30 years of successful cooperation between Total Energies and Super Star Forwarders. Over this period, you have been key international partners, especially in transporting goods using specialised tankers. Personally, I am very pleased and congratulate you sincerely,” said Dr Biteko.

He said that the partnership has ensured reliable fuel availability in Tanzania, created hundreds of jobs for young people, attracted neighbouring countries to use the Port of Dar es Salaam for cargo transit and opened up new opportunities for Tanzanians.

Dr Biteko called on all cargo transporters operating trucks in Tanzania to strictly adhere to high road safety standards by equipping their vehicles with essential safety devices such as GPS, in line with existing regulations.

He assured that the government will continue working closely with business operators to foster a conducive environment, including the development of clear policies to protect and attract further investment in the country.

Minister for Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, also stressed the importance of road safety, describing it as a critical national priority beyond just policy considerations.

He warned that road accidents cause significant losses, including loss of lives and economic damage and urged transporters to use roads responsibly while complying with safety standards.

French Ambassador to Tanzania, Anne Sophie, said the 30-year partnership between the two companies is significant for both Tanzania and France.

She praised initiatives like driver training and the adoption of safety equipment and systems that have improved road safety.

Super Star Forwarders Managing Director, Mr Seif Seif lauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership and efforts to strengthen and expand Tanzania’s transport sector.

On his part, Senior VicePresident for Total Energies Africa – Marketing Services, Mr Jean Phillipe Torres, commended the government for creating an investmentfriendly environment and for its commitment to enhancing the energy sector.
